Why contribute?
- Your support for the HDA PAC — and your support for pro-distribution members of Congress — has a lasting impact on the issues that matter to your company, your suppliers, your customers and our industry.
Who do we support?
-
Candidates that represent or have a strong presence in a district/state where a HDA member distribution center or headquarters is located
-
Candidates that are on a key committee with jurisdiction over healthcare issues (e.g., House Energy and Commerce Committee or Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee)
-
Candidates that are members of the congressional leadership
-
Candidates or political committees that philosophically support positions that reflect HDA's policy priorities, and overall electability
Who can give?
- HDA and member company employees may contribute to the PAC. Voluntary contributions to the HDA PAC are the best way for you to advocate for your business on a national level.
Can we see who the PAC has given to?
- All disbursements are reported regularly to the Federal Exchange Commission (FEC) and are available to the public.
What is prior authorization?
- Prior Authorization is a federal election regulation that requires PACs of corporate-based trade associations to obtain separate and specific approval in writing from member corporations before soliciting their executive or administrative staff
Why should I grant prior approval?
- Congressional decisions can significantly impact the daily business processes of HDA member companies. HDA member employees should be involved in the political process and the HDA PAC is a key advocacy tool.
- To advance our advocacy efforts, HDA PAC would like to share important political information with you and your colleagues. Federal election law first requires corporate-based trade association political action committees, like HDA PAC, to obtain written authorization from its corporate members before they can provide any such information or accept/solicit contributions from employees of its member companies.
If we have prior approval elsewhere, can we still give to the PAC?
- Unfortunately, no. Federal election law states that a corporate member company of a trade association can only give prior authorization to one trade association PAC per year. However, this does not preclude eligible employees from contributing to other trade association PACs. It simply prohibits other trade association PACs from being able to solicit contributions from your eligible employees.
